A longtime member of the photographic and academic community in and around Boston, Neil Rennie participated in his second Salon Nouveau on July 24th. An Assistant Professor of Photography at both New England College in New Hampshire and at The Art Institute of Boston, Neil has become a friend to the Salon project as both a contributing artist and a major supporter, lending his time and expertise to our last two installments. Showing a series of photographs that are an extension of his "Faces of Hip Hop" work from Salon III, Mr. Rennie continued to enrich our events with his newest work and work-in-progress at Salon IV. About his current project, the photographer says:

"This is the beginning of a new series about people from Providence.  The work began as photographs for friends; the early images from this project were shot for underground CDs and calendars. As the project expanded to include events such as birthday parties and baby showers, my personal and photographic relationship with the subjects evolved as well.  These images represent an outsider's glimpse of a specific urban community.  I hope that they serve as not only an accurate depiction of these gatherings, but also as a record of a growing relationship between photographer and subject."
